I am an Iranian-American who spent my childhood growing up in Oklahoma City. As a child, I felt drawn to the outdoors and I predictably felt an inclination towards the 'why' questions of human life, which my lovely parents were kind enough to indulge. Their responses to my questions about human nature, science, and the workings of civilization helped foster a sense of inquiry and curiosity in me. These traits led me to my first major when I began my studies at Oklahoma State University in the Fall of 2015: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As a biochemistry student, I had the opportunity to play an active role in a biochemistry laboratory that conducted research into different types of bacteria in order to see if they conferred antibiotic resistance.
Eventually though, I was introduced to philosophy in an introductory seminar titled "Philosophy of Life." Although I only took the class because it was a general education requirement, I soon found myself enamored by the philosophical texts and topics that I was introduced to. It is safe to say that I was always interested in philosophical questions, but that I was simply unaware that 'professional philosophy' was an enterprise that one could engage in. After this first class, I declared a philosophy minor, which eventually became my major. I graduated in the Spring of 2018 and was awarded the title of "2018 Outstanding Senior in Philosophy" by my department.
In the Fall of 2018, I moved to Milwaukee to begin my M.A. in the history of philosophy at Marquette University, where I had the opportunity to take graduate seminars on Heidegger, Moral Psychology, the Philosophy of Culture, Plato, Augustine, French Phenomenology and Existentialism, Kant, and other thinkers and movements. I received my degree in the Spring of 2020 and remained at Marquette after being accepted into their Ph.D. program, where my studies are currently continuing.
Outside of philosophy, I enjoy reading and writing poetry, playing basketball, and spending time in the great outdoors. I am also an avid sports fan and spend time cheering on the Detroit Pistons and Lions at the professional level and the Oklahoma State Cowboys at the collegiate level.
